I hear people saying they want to be understood quite a bit, or complaining that no ones looking at it from their point of view. I do completely understand the thought, but when asking some people whether or not they looked at it from the other person point of view, some say things along the line of 'no because I know I'm right'. It's so.. close minded. It's comparable to reading a paragraph from a book and trying to depict whether or not its a good story. It can give you somewhat of an idea but not nearly as much if you had read the whole book. What if everybody actually looked at situations as wholes as opposed to looking at it from only their point of view? I can say that I can imagine arguments being very deep and interesting. Looking at situations as a whole gives a much better idea and shows a lot more components of the argument. I can understand that when you have an opinion on something that's being questioned, you can get a little defensive. The biggest weakness in arguing is becoming butt hurt, taking things personal when they don't have to be. To be a master at the art of arguing.. you have to be open minded. The worst part about arguing close minded is that you miss so much.
Please, do not get me wrong here. I do not say this to sound 'open minded', though I would love to one day be.
